Quinteto Fuego was founded in the autumn of 2001 in Jyväskylä, Central Finland. At the time, members of the band were all studying at the Finnish Conservatoire (present Conservatoire of the Jyväskylä Vocational Institute). However, as the band began to gain more experience along with their regular appearances, the conservatoire had less and less influence on Fuego and the band began to work independently. Their reputation as a professional, performing band was established at the latest, when they placed second in the international Citta di Castelfidardo competition in 2004.
During these years, Fuego has performed widely around Finland, but most frequently in their home town Jyväskylä and elsewhere in Central Finland. In 2004, Fuego's tour in Central Finland was sponsored by a local newspaper. Fuego is a familiar sight in Jyväskylä on the stage of Jazz Bar or Nikolainsali, a popular concert hall. Quinteto Fuego has answered for the atmosphere at various private occasions too, such as the opening of Jyväskylän Kesä, a popular art festival, and the dinner concerts for the VIP guests of the famous Neste Rally Finland race. Besides Jyväskylä, Fuego has performed for instance at the Tango Festival in Seinäjoki, Western Finland, and at the Turku Music Festival in Southwest Finland.
In addition to playing the music of Piazzolla, Quinteto Fuego has participated in other kinds of projects as well. The band has cooperated with a popular Finnish singer, Marion Rung, since the spring of 2004. Fuego took part in Marion Rung's concert tour Shalom - rakkaimmat lauluni, and appeared also in 2005 at the Savoy theatre in Helsinki in concerts celebrating Rung's 45th anniversary on stage. In the autumn of 2003, Fuego cooperated with Kansannäyttämö, a theatre in Jyväskylä, in a revue called Push Up!, which was composed by Fuego's pianist of the time, Suvi-Maria Mauer (née Nikula).
In the current line-up, there are still three founder members of the band left: Heli Siekkinen, Elina Mero and Marja-Helena Ojanperä. Jutta Järvenpää and Suvi-Maria Mauer both went to live abroad in the spring of 2005. The current line up has played together since the autumn of 2005.
